Can you tell us about your background and how you came into the world of fanzinat?

Side school, I accumulated a BA in Applied Arts, a product design and am currently the Art Deco Paris in the animation section BTS.

These schools, although excellent, have certain a priori on heroic fantasy, manga etc ... So I tend to separate my work more "plastic" that I present to the school, my personal universe which does is not always looked favorably.

The fanzine was for me the solution, the way to realize that part of me that was not his place. I discovered it by registering on a site online drawing (e-kaki.net), whose members held a fanzine extinct. By meeting these people IRL, I dove into the offbeat and colorful conventions. I was seduced by the good atmosphere "corners fanzines" that I wanted to join. Yet I could not find the right team to launch me. There are four years, friends came to me and asked me to put together a collective zine on the theme of the kitchen: "kiwi-zine" which I continued to participate actively.
How would tell you Maindish Chronicles, and how did the idea for this story?

If I like the teamwork on the kiwi-zine, I needed to let go completely on a personal project: something that puts in a good mood, funny and colorful. But I wanted it talks about cooking in order to put it on the stand kiwi-zine. I also realized that I was still very attached to the fantasy and that to be comfortable, I had to mix these two themes. The Chronicles of Maindish are born from this premise: What would a world where magic is based cuisine? What would this magic? What would be the impact on the lifestyle of the people, the economy, politics etc?

Volume 1 and 2 Chronicles the adventures of a small team of Blueberry, a failed and eccentric cuisimage of Minth a cuisimage specializing in magic tea, oregano, a young man armed with a giant spoon and his brother who is now Chives changed into a pig. During their travels, they find themselves faced with various plots and dramas revealing facets of the Kingdom of Maindish.
How is your work on this title?

I am in constant search of items that can expand the universe. I created the scene, characters, historical events without worrying about what I will actually use in the story. Can I choose what I most want to talk. In Volume 2 is the strong Croustillon, headquarters of the Knights top knives, I felt like the story and oregano grow. Once the script in place I start cutting boards. Only I have the annoying habit of working chapter by chapter. That is, once the cutting of a chapter finished, I started directing boards without having cut the next chapter. This has some disadvantages. However I prefer to work that way because then I constantly think about the coherence of the story. It also allows me to arrange some kind of suspense and never bored during implementation. Regarding the design, I work directly with the computer on the Paint Tool Sai software. My way of painting allows me to spend my step "inking". I can come back as I want and at any time in the drawings.
What are your main influences?

Regarding the universe Maindish, I would cite the anime Slayers and the Annals of Discworld by Terry Pratchett. In terms of my work in general, I'd say I'm influenced by the illustrations of research designs that I can see in the field of animation, especially older Disney. The color is very important in my work. The colorful scenes underscore the tone of the story and each character has its own color palette. I also had the opportunity to work for the restoration of ancient murals and I've always been fascinated by the efficiency of a single brush stroke that gives the impression, from a distance, a multitude of alive. details That's why I like to leave visible brush strokes. The set seems more so living.
What are your next projects?

In September released on Volume 4 of the kiwi-zine on vegetarian cooking. But in October, I will begin the fifth and final year in my school.
